About Rehoming at PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue

What animals does your rescue accept?

As the name suggest, our rescue only takes in Guinea Pigs and no other species of small animal.

If I surrender, can I still get updates on how my pet is doing?

We know surrendering can be a difficult decision, and you may be nervous about how your pet will do at our rescue & in their new home. Here at PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue, we want to make the surrendering process as easy as possible. If requested, we will update you up to the day of adoption so that you know your special friend is getting the best care possible.

We are proud to share that our rescue even frequently gets updates from our families that had adopted over 3 years ago when we first began rescuing. So it is possible that we may even be able to provide you with updates after adoption should the new family allow us to share them with you!

Do you accept surrenders with medical issues?

If you have an animal with a medical issue, we ask that you please contact a larger rescue for your surrender. PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue is a small rescue and unable to accommodate any additional medical cases at this time.

Do we accept Pregnant Guinea Pigs?

Yes we do!

As the only guinea pig-specific rescue serving the Houston area, we’re a small operation with limited space and resources. Because our resources are limited, our rescue prioritizes the most critical cases — guinea pigs who have been abandoned, neglected, or found without anyone to care for them. These animals have no safety net, and we focus our efforts where the need is most urgent.

While we deeply wish we could help every guinea pig in need, we’re simply not large enough to accept all surrender requests. Because of this, we are only able to accept owner surrenders during slower periods when we have the time and capacity to support rehoming efforts.

That said, we believe no one asking for help should be left without support. That’s why we’ve created a Rehoming Guide — a resource designed to help you safely and responsibly find a loving, permanent home for your guinea pig.

If you’ve tried rehoming on your own and are still in need of assistance, you’re welcome to fill out our surrender waitlist form below. We review every application and do our best to help when space becomes available.

Please keep in mind that due to our limited capacity, we cannot guarantee intake, and it may take some time — potentially several months to a year — before space becomes available. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for being an advocate for your pet’s well-being.
