Learn about PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue
PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue was created out of a deep love for guinea pigs and in honor of a special little piggy named Biscuit. In August 2016, we brought home our first guinea pig—a tiny little bean, probably less than a month old. Like many new owners, we bought her on impulse and had difficulty finding reliable resources on how to care for her properly. Despite a rough start, Biscuit’s sassy personality and zest for life inspired us to do better and ensure she had the best care imaginable.
As we learned more about guinea pigs, we rescued her cagemate, and our love for these little potatoes truly grew. Biscuit’s life, especially when she developed cardiovascular disease as a senior, taught us how much attention and care guinea pigs can require. Years later, as shelters became overwhelmed, we took in abandoned guinea pigs with nowhere else to go. Even through the toughest moments, we knew we couldn’t stop helping these incredible animals.
We formed PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue soon after with the goal of helping guinea pigs in need & using our knowledge to help new owners start prepared with everything they need to succeed.
Want to join the cause and be a part of our rescue effort?
At PeanutButterPigs Guinea Pig Rescue, we are dedicated to giving each guinea pig the best chance at life. We will never euthanize due to space or time constraints. Our mission is to care for each animal with love and compassion. However, in the rare cases when a guinea pig is suffering and there are no options to relieve their pain, we make the hardest decision with their comfort and dignity in mind. We promise to always listen to their needs and do what is kindest for them. No matter what we feel, the feeling of our piggies come first.
We prioritize taking in guinea pigs that have been abandoned or found in the Houston area, as more and more are being discovered with nowhere else to go. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for these guinea pigs in need. Many Kind individuals who find, or are concerned about a abandoned guinea pig contact us and we are happy to take them in and get them the care & love they need.
Owner surrenders are accepted only when we have the space to do so, ensuring that we are always able to help those most in need.
Our rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters. We are funded through your kind donations, which help us continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming guinea pigs in need. Every contribution, big or small, plays a crucial role in our mission to provide these animals with the care and love they deserve.
